We can help
Depression (major depressive disorder) is one of the most common mental health conditions, but it can make you feel isolated and alone. Symptoms of depression often go well beyond feeling sad every now and then and can make it extremely difficult to go to work and take care of yourself.
Some people with depression are able to get by with just medication and counseling, but that’s not enough for others. You might need an overnight facility to get a handle on your mental health, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all. Elevation Behavioral Health (BH) has programs laser-focused on helping clients reduce symptoms of mental health conditions and get their lives under control. We strive to be one of the best depression treatment centers New Jersey has to offer.
Our team is ready to discuss our programs with you as soon as you are. If you’d like to get started, give us a call at 888-561-0868 or contact us here.

Take the first step towards healing.
When you think about overnight facilities for mental health conditions, your mind might immediately go to psychiatric hospitals. Those certainly have their place in mental health treatment, but Elevation BH is much different. New Jersey residents living with depression may find that a change of scenery is just what they need. More than one in five women living in the Garden State reported a diagnosis of depression in 2021, and nearly 15 percent of men are also living with the condition. We’d be honored to treat you if you don’t find a New Jersey depression treatment center that fits your needs.
Our team of experts is here to help you.
What to Look For
Major depressive disorder (sometimes called clinical depression) sometimes gets mistaken for normal periods of sadness or emotional emptiness. The opposite is also true, however.
Depression describes persistent feelings of sadness or negative feelings that affect an individual’s ability to function in everyday life. A diagnosis of major depressive disorder requires symptoms that affect someone for at least two weeks. Other types of depression, such as seasonal affective disorder (SAD), perinatal depression, and perimenopausal depression, are tied to specific events or time periods.
Common symptoms of depression include, but are not limited to:
If you are experiencing thoughts of suicide or self-harm, we urge you to reach out to a 24/7 resource such as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. You can call 988 or text any message to 988 to get connected with a real person who can speak with you.
Whether or not someone has given you a formal diagnosis of depression, Elevation BH staff can work with you to find the right resources.
How We Help
The first-line treatment for individuals living with depression is psychotherapy, or counseling. Many psychiatrists and psychologists advocate trying therapy for a few weeks or longer before adding on pharmacotherapy.
Common depression treatments in greater detail include:
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are among the most popular medications psychiatrists and doctors prescribe for individuals experiencing symptoms of depression. Common SSRI brands are Prozac, Zoloft, and Lexapro. Similar drugs include SNRIs, MAOIs, and NDRIs.
Most medications commonly prescribed for depression take effect after 4–8 weeks, but they occasionally do not work for people taking them. If you need to take prescription medications for depression, expect to have a trial-and-error period while you find the best medicine.
More than 59 million people saw a therapist for their mental health in 2023. The type of therapy you receive will depend on a number of factors, including how you’re feeling and what you want to accomplish out of therapy.
One of the most-used types of talk therapy is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which aims to help clients target unhelpful thought patterns that often result in maladaptive behaviors. An offshoot, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), can help clients regulate emotions and gain some degree of acceptance of their life’s circumstances. Those are just two of many types of psychotherapy.
Adjunct therapies are therapeutic interventions designed to complement evidence-based therapies like CBT and DBT. Such therapies include approaches like EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing), which has shown promise for helping clients manage traumatic memories, and yoga, which can promote feel-good chemicals in the brain.
Elevation BH strongly believes in holistic therapy, which involves treating the entire client and not just the symptoms of their mental health condition.
Have you tried these before without success? Don’t be afraid to give it another go—sometimes, all you need is the right therapist.
We Can Help
The cornerstone of Elevation BH’s mental health programs is our residential facilities, including transitional housing for mental health conditions.
The Agoura Hills living facility offers numerous opportunities for residents to relax, enjoy the company of other clients, and forget about the stressors of everyday life. This living center features a pool, a cozy theater, and an on-site tennis court.
Our Westhaven residential center is our transitional facility. Many clients find that they need a supportive living environment after they finish residential treatment. Transitional housing offers structured schedules and peer support, which are crucial for the sustained management of mental health conditions. It is the perfect bridge between residential mental health care at our three other facilities and the real world.
