Vanessa NyBlom

Hello, my name is Vanessa NyBlom, and I am the Client Coordinator.

I have been in the healthcare field for about three years, much of which was spent working a direct patient care role in an Orthopedic Trauma unit. There, I gained extensive experience with physical and mental rehabilitation. This experience coupled with my education led me to the world of mental health. I was very interested in using my experience from the hospital and everything I learned about the mental effects of physical rehabilitation, to relate to those struggling and finding solace in residential mental healthcare.

One of my favorite parts of working in the mental health world is the opportunity to experience every single person’s own story. While biologically and psychologically there are many overlaps in individual’s situations, everyone’s story and circumstances are so unique, and it really opens your eyes to all of the different things that can effect one’s life and mental status/care. It is extremely insightful to be able to interact with a client on a deeper level and really make them feel heard and understood to tailor their care to themselves as much as possible.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, as well as a minor in Neuroscience. I would say that I have spent my education and work life specializing in cognitive and behavioral neuroscience, participating in years of both case-study based, as well as hands-on research on many different aspects of neuroscience. I specifically focused research on the neuroscience behind decision making and what happens in the brain during the making of a decision. I have always been very interested in why we do the things we do and what factors come to play for an individual to make those decisions. In terms of both mental and physical rehabilitation, I also focused this research on the neuroscience of motivation. This plays a major role in the mental health field, as many people struggle with motivation, and I believe strongly in the importance of psychoeducation to enhance motivation.

In my own life I am often considered the planner, as I excel in the organization of tasks and productivity in both my personal and professional life. Having things booked, planned out, or just written down has always brought me a sense of calmness that I now get to share with our clients!

Outside of work I really enjoy spending time with my friends and my dogs. I like to spend as much time as I can outdoors because of the beautiful state we live in. I try to go to the beach at least once a week as it is such a calm and relaxing place for me, as well as a great source of vitamin D!
