Hello!
I’m Jacqueline Ruiz, a dedicated and aspiring Health Data Analyst with a passion for leveraging data to improve healthcare outcomes. With a background in Health Informatics and a love for all things data, I thrive on creating insights that drive strategic decision-making. I’m always eager to connect with like-minded professionals and explore new opportunities to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare industry.
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Informatics from Texas State University and an Associate’s Degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Los Angeles Pierce College. My certifications include AHIMA’s RHIA, CompTIA’s Data+, and a Six Sigma Green Belt. I am currently pursuing PMI’s CAPM and HIMSS’ CAHIMS certifications. My specialization lies in data visualization, analysis, and healthcare information management.

What led you to this point in your career?

My journey to the healthcare field began with my fascination with data and its potential to transform lives. Initially working in veterinary clinics, I witnessed firsthand how accurate data management could enhance patient care. This experience, while not in human medicine, was still centered on helping others and sparked my interest in health informatics. It led me to pursue formal education and internships in this field. My commitment to improving patient outcomes through data-driven insights has been the driving force behind my career.

How long have you been in the field?

I have been involved in the healthcare field for several years, beginning with my 4-year bachelor’s degree in health informatics and extending through various internships and volunteer roles in healthcare organizations. Additionally, I have 4-5 years of experience working in veterinary clinics, which has been a significant part of my journey. My commitment to expanding my knowledge and skills is a constant driving force in my career, as I strive to continuously enhance my expertise and contribute to improving patient outcomes.

What do you love most about being a mental health professional?

While I am not a mental health professional, I deeply appreciate the power of data in the healthcare sector. What I love most about my role is the ability to uncover insights from complex datasets that can lead to improved patient care and operational efficiencies. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that my analytical skills contribute to better healthcare outcomes.

What’s the most profound, insightful, or interesting thing you’ve learned as a mental health professional/paraprofessional?

One of the most profound insights I’ve gained in my career is the crucial role of data integrity and the importance of structure and stability for individuals seeking support in mental health. While certain mistakes might seem minor to those with robust mental well-being, they can be detrimental to mental health patients. Therefore, attention to detail, having compassion and patience are absolutely essential. Ensuring accurate, reliable data is essential for making informed decisions that can significantly impact patient care. This understanding has underscored the value of meticulous data validation and the role of technology in maintaining high standards of data quality.

Which roles do you play in your own life? What are some of your hobbies, interests, and passions outside of work?

Outside of my professional life, I play several roles, including volunteer and social media manager for HIMSS Central Texas Chapter. In my personal time, I enjoy maintaining and developing websites, which combines my love for technology and creativity. I also have a passion for learning new data analytics techniques and am currently developing my skills in Python and SQL through online courses and practical projects.
